Per mio padre un artista non è semplicemente uno che dipinge, ma è quasi un filosofo. L’artista è uno che cerca la verità, una persona che cerca di capire il mondo dalla propria prospettiva, per poi distillare questa verità. Quindi invece di scrivere un saggio, come farebbe un filosofo, l’artista cerca di esprimere la sua visione del mondo in un quadro. Per mio padre l’arte tratta idee e sentimenti, cose che per lui era importante comunicare: il modo di esprimerli era meno importante per lui delle cose stesse, ma in realtà poteva farlo solo dipingendo. È emozionante per me vedere a Roma i quadri di mio padre, perché era uno dei suoi posti preferiti. In questo museo c’è una perfetta combinazione di storia e di attualità.
Il vecchio e il nuovo si mescolano nelle pitture di mio padre, che rappresentano anche loro una combinazione del vecchio - la storia dell’arte - con il nuovo - la sua ricerca personale. È un connubio felice.

For my father an artist is not simply one who paints, he is almost a philosopher. The artist is one seeking truth, a person trying to understand the world from his own point of view, to then distil this truth. So instead of writing an essay, as a phililosopher would, the artist tries to express his world vision in a picture. For my father art deals with ideas and feelings, things it was important for him to communicate: how to express them was less important to him than the things themselves, but in reality he could only do so by painting. It is emotional for me to see my father’s pictures in Rome, because it was one of his favourite places. In this museum there is a perfect combination of history and topicality.
The old and the new corroborate my father’s paintings, which also represent a combination of the old - the history of art - with the new - his personal search. It is a happy marriage.
